Contest Overview
Pre-registration for the August 1st, 2009 contest has closed but you may still register onsite, the day of the event.
For the August 1st contest, practice pulls will take place at Windsor Lake on Friday July 31st from 1pm to 6pm at $10 per pull. It's a good idea to show up early to ensure you get a pull because we will have to wrap up at 6pm.
The prizes for participants and spectators will be the biggest thus far. You MUST participate in a contest to be eligible for the super grand prizes, which will be selected in a random drawing at each event. So even if you are total beginner, it's worth participating to earn some free goodies and ride behind the very best boat made - see below!
At the August 1st contest, we have the home-town hero of Emily Copeland-Durham onsite along with other pros. With her huge off-axis spins and enormous wrapped KGB, Emily simply kills it on a wakeboard. She also happens to be one of the nicest, and most friendly personalities you will ever meet, and is a great role model for kids and those looking to learn the next steps in their riding. For those that would like to ride and learn with Emily, we will also be hosting a Pro Clinic with her the following day. The cost is $89 per person and space is very limited.
Also at the August 1st contest will be the Aussie, Amber Wing, the very 1st girl to land a 720 and one of the coolest gals to hang with on the planet! Amber is an instructor at the Wakeboard Camp in Orlando, and is also highly skilled in both riding and coaching. Amber will be doing a live demo at the contest that will be outright amazing, and for a very select, lucky few, will be doing a mini-clinic after the event concludes.
Both pro gals will be onsite on August 1st to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
Also, just in for August 1st!!!!!
The event will be towed with the mighty, Super Air Nautique 230. For those of you that don't know or have lived under a rock for the past few years, the 230 is second to no other boat. The 230 is simply the VERY best wakeboard boat made today, and has the VERY best wake in the entire sport of wakeboarding. In both quality and performance, it is simply the one boat that all others are compared to, period. If for no other reason than the opportunity to ride behind this wakeboard boat, or see it live in action, show up to check it out.
We have several contest divisions - see below - but new for this year is the Master's Division. When the Team Riders met in February 2009, it was unanimously voted on that we would incorporate this new division for all of the guys out there that are over the age of 30. So if you want to compete but can't keep up with the 12-year old pros, this is your chance to bring the thunder.
The
2009 MHW Wakeboard Series is exclusively conducted, funded, and hosted by Mile
High Wakeboarding.

General
Contest Guidelines
Judging for each division is based on a combined score
of Style, Technical Difficulty, and Amplitude. Advanced and
Outlaw divisions receive a small bonus for the Best Trick
and Best Double Up and for completing the "bonus trick" to be determined at each event.
Women, Masters,
and Groms may compete in both their respective division, and
another division if they choose to. Registration, entry fees,
and points will be calculated separately.
Riders
are allowed two (2) falls. A rider's contest run is over on
a third (3rd) fall. Advanced and Outlaw riders still standing
at the end of their run are eligible to hit the double up.
All
riders, through the Advanced division, will use the boat rope
and handle (Accurate A Line w/Prime Handle). Advanced and
Outlaw divisions may use their own rope and handle.
MHW
has allowed check-in and start times to be flexible so you
don't have to sit in the hot sun all day. Please note the
event schedule at each contest stop throughout the series.
MHW has created the current schedule based on participation
at the last contest, and will keep it updated as needed, or
as additional participation requires.
Each
division is limited to a maximum of 20 riders based on the
order that MHW receives their registration. No exceptions.
MHW will award prizes after the Master divisions (for Grom, Women, Beginner, and Masters) and Outlaw division (for Intermediate, Advanced, and Outlaw).
All
riders are welcome to catch a $10 demo pull behind the actual tournament
boat on the Friday prior to each contest stop. This will allow
you to become familiar with the lake, tow boat, and boat wake. Simply show up at the select location after 1pm the Friday before, and sign up for a tow. We'll be there until 6pm.
Every
win, place, and contest entry will accumulate and earn a rider
points towards the 2009 Series Championship. (In season's where we host 3 or more events.)
In a year where MHW hosts 3 or more contests, each
rider will have their lowest score dropped. In this case, if a rider misses an event or has a bad day, it
will not be detrimental to their overall standings.

Other Contest Details
It is a smart idea to bring chairs, shade, and sunscreen,
as you will need them - and feel free to set up under any tents we have set up.
Small,
friendly dogs are also welcome (please clean up after your
pet or we won't be able to allow this in the future).
The
rider traveling the furthest distance (based on home address
or your plane ticket) to each stop of the contest series will
be awarded a "sponsored" entry into that contest and a free t-shirt. This rider will
be announced the day of the event and all registration costs
will be refunded to them on the spot. This is MHW's way of
saying thank you for making the effort to attend!
In
the event of poor weather, MHW will bump the contest to the
next morning or if that option is not available to us, we will entertain you until it passes over. MHW should
have huge tents this year and we'll do our best to keep everyone
out of the sun and rain, and keep it fun! The dates we have picked are usually pretty great for weather but you never know.
There
will not be any room for additional boats on the lake(s).
The
tournament will start exactly on time and we will do our best
to keep it moving as quickly and efficiently as possible.
All
contest riders receive a MHW contest T-shirt. (Series Champions
may receive a special T-shirt.)
Contest
riders should bring their own board, life vest, and gear but plan ahead with us if you will need equipment.
We
have developed these contests to be family-friendly. Please
pick up after yourself, behave yourself, do not park in areas
that block others, and have courtesy and respect for others
around you, as well as the lake property. Note local drinking laws within parks and/or cities. Please
note that any music played should be PG rated and radio friendly.
MHW
can always use photographers and other volunteers at each
contest/event. If you are personable and can snap a photo,
or would like to help with other activities, let us know.
We fund these events entirely on our own so we need all the help we can get!
Lastly,
we conduct these events just for you! If you have constructive
feedback and would like your voice to be heard, call or email
us (moreinfo at milehighwakeboarding.com) your suggestions.
You may find that we have already considered your proposal
or suggestion but this sport is constantly evolving and we
all have much to learn. What works today may be outdated tomorrow.
