Skiing
and Riding In Utah
Where to start? Well, you already know that Utah has some
of the fluffiest, freshest, and driest snow on the planet.
With over 500 inches of the good stuff falling each year,
and predictably great conditions, you probably already know
that Utah is one of the best places in the world to ski and
ride real powder. In fact, as we write up this description,
over 3+ feet of snow has fallen there in the past 24 hours.
Powder Mountain (one of our favorites) was actually closed
because of too much snow. Can you believe that? Now that's
fresh, fluffy, and deep. Can you imagine if you were a local
yesterday and today? Wow!

Great Ski Resorts
We will be skiing and riding the legendary steeps of Snowbasin,
the pipe, park, and slopes of Park
City, both were hosts of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and
the fluffy, deep, and nearly empty glades of Powder
Mountain, which really does live up to its name. For those
of you that really enjoy the backcounty, and riding the fluffiest
of fluff, we are giving you a unique opportunity (a first
for many of you) to experience what the words "untracked
powder" really do mean. If real powder riding appeals
to you, be sure to sign up in advance for the snowcat skiing
and riding at Powder Mountain (no additional charge) and find
out what we are talking about when we say fluffy! (Snowcat
riding is not for beginners or intermediate skiers or riders.
You must already be able to ride deep powder to really enjoy
this.)
We always plan these trips so we can ride midweek and have
the slopes to our ourselves. As you can see from these pictures,
we usually get our way! So for all of you riders and skiers...come
ride the fluffy stuff in Utah and get your ski or ride on!

Trip
Cost and What's Included
We plan these trips to be as economical as possible for each
student going and we always try to make them as all-inclusive
as we can. The cost of the trip is $549 or $499 if you sign
up by October 31, 2009. This includes the following:
4
nights of hotel accommodations*
3 of 4 days of skiing/riding (with one day off for the
Salomon Center)
R/T motorcoach transportation to and from Utah
Transportation to/from resorts and all activities
4 hot breakfasts at hotel
Exclusive activities and events - see details below
Cool prizes and giveaways (and one super, duper, big
one)
Official trip photos on CD
Free trip T-shirt

In
addition to all of resort lift-tickets, and snowcat skiing
and riding at Powder Mountain, some of the exclusive activities
that are included are; indoor rock climbing at iRock,
laser tag, glow bowling, mini glow golf, arcade tokens, bumper
cars, themed dance -live DJ- party at Studio 600, and the
optional air museum tour at Hill AFB.
Optional
free lessons and terrain/snow guides are available each day
at the slopes. Please sign up ahead of time on your registration
form.
Powder
Mountain also offers night skiing (included at no extra charge)
so there may be additional shuttles to and from the mountain
on that day. For the advanced skiers and riders, we will include
a snowcat ticket at Powder for no extra charge.
For
those that would like to participate in the indoor rock climbing,
bowling, mini golf, or other major activity, we will need
you to sign up ahead of time (no additional charge) on your
registration form so we can plan and stage the groups. Some
activities (iFLY,
Flowrider,
and iRock) each have
their own liability forms (separate from ours) that must be
signed individually by your parents ahead of time. So if you
think you might want to do these activities, it's smart to
plan ahead and bring the signed form(s) with you so you have
the option. No forms will be available the day of these activities.
For
those signing up for the optional Air
Museum Tour, at Hill Air Force Base, we will be randomly
giving away 10+ iFLY passes, and 10+ Flowrider passes for
those in attendance, as well as 1 other REALLY, REALLY BIG
prize - only available to those on the air tour. Come learn
first hand from real-life pilots about the planes they once
flew. You'll also get a quick overview of flight, all the
way from the earliest flights, to dog fighting, to the latest,
most modern fighter planes of today, and many of these are
on display. Bring your camera as (for those that know about
this) they have the legendary SR-71 on display. This black,
early stealth, spy plane traveled well over Mach 3 and could
actually outrun a missile! They also have an collection of
fighters and attack planes such as the A-10, (which has a
nose cannon that could cut a house in half), an F-16, F-18,
F-15, F-4, and several other planes from every era you can
think of.
*In
our experience, with only a handful of exceptions each year,
students usually want to make the trip as economical as possible.
Based on this fact, we calculate the trip price based on the
very best prices we can negotiate. If you would like to have
less than 4 in your hotel room, please e-mail us ahead of
time, to make arrangements. There isn't really a pricing guide
as each request is a little different but hotel rooms average
$100+ per night in resort areas and most are willing to work
with us for special requests. We will do our best to assist
you, but we cannot guarantee anything until the hotels confirm
your request(s), availability, and pricing with us.

What's
Not Included In This Trip
Ski or board rentals
It's best to rent from the mountain or shop of your choice
at home or on the trip.
Lunch and dinners
While we include hot breakfasts at the hotel, everyone has
different tastes for lunch and dinner. We will provide you
with a list of restaurants within walking distance of the
hotels, along with a detailed walking map, prior to the trip
or at the orientation. The Salomon
Center has several food choices within the building for
when we are there.
Souvenirs or extra spending money
If you would like to make souvenir purchases (hats, T-shirts,
etc.), or purchase additional arcade game tokens, or participate
in the iFLY ($40
including tip) or Flowrider
($25/hour including tip), please prepare and budget accordingly.
If you would like, you have the option to pre-pay for iFLY
and Flowrider
on the registration form.
iFLY
(Indoor Skydiving)
iFLY ($40 total
including tip) is not included in the price of the trip, as
not everyone will have a chance, or will want to participate
in a skydiving flight. For those of you that would like to
participate, it is very smart to sign up ahead of time (on
your registration form) as space and time will be limited.
iFLY has it's own liability form that must be signed by your
parents ahead of time, so if you think you might want to take
a skydiving flight, you must plan ahead and have your form(s)
signed. Forms will not be available the day of the event.
These forms can be downloaded once you register and will be
part of the student/parent checklist.
Along with your training, gear, and personal instructor, you
will receive two (2), one-minute skydiving flights and will
experience the actual feeling of skydiving. Our group rate
is $35 per (introductory) session and we require that you
tip your instructor $5 per session. (You'll see why when you
are there, as the instructor can make or break your flying
experience!) If you are not pre-paying for iFLY, please plan
ahead and tip them in cash. iFLY will have their entire staff
on site that day to support our group, so we expect that you
will treat them with courtesy and leave a good impression.
If you would like a DVD ($15.00) of your flights, let them
know when you are ready to fly and they will be happy to make
you one - or sign up ahead of time. (We got a DVD and it's
pretty cool. You'll see it on the bus ride there!)
Flowrider
(Indoor Wave Surfing)
Flowrider
($25 total including tip) is not included in the price of
the trip, as not everyone will have a chance, or will want
to participate in this activity. For those of you that would
like to participate, it is very smart to sign up ahead of
time (on your registration form) as space and time will be
limited. For some of you, we'll have to physically remove
you from the water...it's that addicting!!
Flowrider
has it's own liability form that must be signed by your parents
ahead of time, so if you think you might want to ride the
Flowrider, you must plan ahead and have your form(s) signed.
Forms will not be available the day of the event. These forms
can be downloaded once you register and will be part of the
student/parent checklist.
Along
with your training, board, and personal instructor, you will
receive an hour of riding time to share with your friends
(which is more than enough - as you'll be whipped). Our group
rate is $20 per (introductory) session and we require that
you tip your instructor $5 per session. (You'll see why when
you are there, as the instructor can make or break your wave
riding experience!) If you are not prepaying for the Flowrider,
please plan ahead and tip them in cash. Flowrider will have
their entire staff on site that day to support our group,
so we expect that you will treat them with courtesy and leave
a good impression.
Also, for the Flowrider, both guys and gals will want to wear
swim suits and swim trunks that tie very tightly. Gals will
want to wear board shorts and T-shirts over their swimsuits.
If you have a rash guard or short, wet-suit top that could
work as well. (We may have a couple of extras on site.) The
water is 87+ degrees so you won't be cold but you could lose
your suit! They have towels for your use, but depending on
how many ride the Flowrider, you may want to bring a towel
from the hotel, just in case. (Be careful not to lose it or
they will need to charge you for it!)
Tipping
On many of these trips, we go back to familiar locations,
restaurants, and facilities. After a trip or two, the locals
get to know us and you'll quickly find out that they really
do go out of their way to help provide great service to you.
They do this because they know that we are (hint, hint - wink,
wink) respectful, courteous, behaved, and always tip their
employees well. When we go to book a trip for the next season
and it's already booked up, you'd be amazed how quickly things
open up, and this is one of the reasons why. Do not be cheap
when tipping, as this is part of the deal on our trips. Plan
and budget for it.
As
a rule, when you go out to sit-down restaurants in the area,
you will want to tip 20% if you are in a group, and even more
if the service was great. (Easy math: take the total of your
bill and figure out what 10% of that total is, then double
it.)
For your hotel housekeepers, it's customary to leave about
$1-2 per person, per day (about $20-$24 total or at least
$5 each for this trip) on the last morning of your stay. Leave
it on the nightstand or coffee table with a "thank you"
note so they know it's a tip. As we said before, we use a
lot of the same facilities on these trips and they make special
efforts to accommodate us, simply because they know we will
take care of them while we are there. Always plan ahead and
tip them in cash.
For
your bus drivers, it's customary to tip (if they are nice
and did a good job!!) about $10 per student - at the end of
the trip. Or - if we have multiple drivers, during the trip,
about $1-2 per ride. (Each trip is slightly different.) Always
plan ahead and tip them in cash. They appreciate the courtesy
and tend to let you get away with a lot more if you are good
to them!!
If
you participate in the optional Air Museum Tour (this is educational
and very, very cool) we donate a set amount per student attending.
Even so, when you see the museum, you will be impressed. They
have donation stations throughout the facility. If you would
like to throw in an extra dollar or two, it couldn't hurt.
Keep in mind that we have 10+ Flowrider and 10+ iFLY passes
to give away while you are at the tour and 1 really big prize
so you don't want to miss out!

For
Parents (if applicable)
Parents, in the event that you do not wish your son or daughter
to sign up for certain activities, such as the iFLY
indoor skydiving, Flowrider
wave riding, snow cat skiing, iRock
rock climbing, or other activity, please send us an email
(moreinfo -the at symbol- milehighwakeboarding.com) to confirm
your wishes, and also to prevent any unauthorized signups.
We are not responsible for forged signatures, so we use this
as a prevention tool.
During every snow trip, MHW (MHW) office staff maintain
a mobile office with a full array of communications. In the
event of a family or some other emergency, MHW security, medical,
and office staff are available 24 hours a day, to assist parents
and students. They are easily identified by their company
clothing. Students and parents are provided with emergency
contact numbers prior to the trip and again during the trip
orientation.
MHW
security staff conduct regular, daily patrols, and nightly
room checks, to ensure the safety of all students and enforce
respectable behavior. While the intention of the trip is to
provide students with a fun spring break experience, we must
strictly enforce respectable behavior. Each student participant
signs a Personal Conduct Agreement that clearly identifies
the do's and don'ts of the trip and what will happen if they
break the rules. Rest assured that after several snow trips,
we don't miss much and know exactly what to look for.
MHW provides these snow trips and other adventures, to raise
awareness and/or funds for our at-risk, youth and teen initiatives
throughout the year. While we work with several different
groups, we are not associated with a specific board shop,
school, team, club, church, or other organization. All trips
are designed, organized, and operated exclusively by MHW and
our professional staff.

Activities
On and Off the Mountain
We always have various contests, events, and exhibitions each
day, but to give everyone more time at the Salomon Center
we will limit the day activities to normal skiing and riding,
and load up the night activities with additional cool prizes
and events. To keep you entertained each night, we have our
exclusive events and parties planned, and each night has it's
own theme, such as pajama night, snow bunny contests, and
live DJ parties. We'll let you know themes in your participant
packet. And don't forget to bring your energy drinks, as you
will need them!
Each
day is loaded with prizes, party games, and the unexpected,
so it will be a fun-filled week you don't want to miss.
